Barcelona is a bilingual city, so students hear Castilian and Catalan side by side, which is a useful thing for a language group to encounter. The Boqueria food market is a guided three-hour visit where students order and buy for themselves, and the Sagrada Família and Park Güell can both be guided in Spanish so the culture and the language happen at once. Nou Camp is there for the students who need a hook into the trip, and a tapas walking tour and flamenco evening round it off. It works from Key Stage 3 upwards.

Language immersion means your students use the language in ordinary situations rather than only in lessons. Guides can work in the target language, in English, or switch between the two, and the same applies to walking tours, so you set the level. Market visits, tapas tours and food halls put students in front of people they need to order from, and the included E3 language trail sends them out in small groups to work through tasks around the city. Yes. Structured lessons in a classroom setting can be built in alongside the visits, taught by teachers used to working with UK school groups. The number of lessons is entirely up to you, and some groups include none at all, preferring the language to come through the visits themselves. The E3 language trail is a self-guided booklet of tasks that sends your students out around the city in small groups. They read signage, ask questions and complete activities in the target language without a teacher translating for them, which builds confidence quickly. It is included at no extra cost on the trips that feature it, and works alongside the guided visits rather than replacing them.

Every trip is built around your group rather than sold as a fixed package. A typical MFL trip covers return travel, accommodation on a half board basis, transport and transfers, entrance to the visits you choose, and guides where they are needed. The itinerary shown on this page is a suggestion, so visits can be swapped, added or dropped, and structured language lessons can be included if you want them. Travel insurance is available as an optional supplement rather than being built into the price.

The autumn and spring terms work best. Barcelona is extremely busy in the summer, and the Sagrada Família and Park Güell are much better for a group between September and March, with shorter queues and easier booking. The weather stays mild well into the autumn term and picks up again from February. Travelling outside the summer peak also brings a wider choice of accommodation and better availability on guided visits.

Where students work through the E3 trail or buy their own lunch in a market, they do so in small groups with clear meeting points, timings and staff positioned nearby, rather than being left to their own devices.
