Opal Coast School Trips
Bespoke School Trips to
Opal Coast
If you are looking for your next French school trip, the Opal Coast is one of the easiest ways to get your students speaking French, with bespoke packages from Adaptable Travel.
Just across the Channel on France's Côte d'Opale, it drops your group straight into everyday French. A guided market tour, a boulangerie demonstration and the artisan chocolatier at Beussent all turn classroom vocabulary into something students actually use.
There is room for the wider curriculum too. Nausicaá in Boulogne-sur-Mer, one of Europe's largest aquariums, adds a science and geography link alongside the language.
With a short Channel crossing and only a brief coach transfer beyond Calais, it is one of the most accessible immersion destinations for school groups. That keeps travel time and costs down, and makes it a strong choice for a first trip abroad or a tight three-day window.
When planning your trip with Adaptable, you will work closely with our team to build the immersion itinerary that suits your group. Contact Adaptable Travel today to start planning your French immersion trip to the Opal Coast.

FAQs for
Opal Coast School Trips
The Opal Coast is one of the easiest ways to get students speaking French, sitting just across the Channel with only a short coach transfer beyond Calais. That keeps travel time and cost down and makes it a strong choice for a first trip abroad or a tight three-day window. A guided market tour, a boulangerie demonstration and the artisan chocolatier at Beussent turn classroom vocabulary into something students actually use. Nausicaá in Boulogne-sur-Mer, one of Europe's largest aquariums, adds a science and geography link alongside the language.
Language immersion means your students use the language in ordinary situations rather than only in lessons. Guides can work in the target language, in English, or switch between the two, and the same applies to walking tours, so you set the level. Market visits, tapas tours and food halls put students in front of people they need to order from, and the included E3 language trail sends them out in small groups to work through tasks around the city. You decide how much of the trip runs in the target language, and it can be increased as the group grows in confidence.
Yes. Structured lessons in a classroom setting can be built in alongside the visits, taught by teachers used to working with UK school groups. The number of lessons is entirely up to you, and some groups include none at all, preferring the language to come through the visits themselves. Lessons work well on longer trips and with groups who want a measurable outcome from the week. Tell us what you have in mind when you enquire and we will build the balance you want.
Every trip is built around your group rather than sold as a fixed package. A typical MFL trip covers return travel, accommodation on a half board basis, transport and transfers, entrance to the visits you choose, and guides where they are needed. The itinerary shown on this page is a suggestion, so visits can be swapped, added or dropped, and structured language lessons can be included if you want them. Travel insurance is available as an optional supplement rather than being built into the price.
The autumn and spring terms work well and are the most affordable. September and October give reasonable weather for the market tour and time on the coast, and from January to March there is wider accommodation availability and better pricing. Nausicaá and the boulangerie and chocolatier visits are all indoors, so a spring term trip loses very little. Because the crossing is short, a three-day trip fits comfortably into term time without a long journey at either end.
The main consideration on a language trip is the self-guided element. Where students work through the E3 trail or buy their own lunch in a market, they do so in small groups with clear meeting points, timings and staff positioned nearby, rather than being left to their own devices. Guides are used at the visits that call for one. Every supplier we use is audited through TourTrust, our own safety management system, and you receive a risk assessment handbook and supplier safety information in one pack, along with a 24 hour support line while your group is away.
Senior leadership will usually want the curriculum rationale, the safety arrangements and the financial protection. Every supplier is audited through TourTrust and you receive a risk assessment handbook and supplier safety information in one pack, so most of what gets asked is already documented. Adaptable Travel is an ABTA member, membership number Y1241, flight-inclusive trips are ATOL protected, and we have been arranging educational trips since 1994. On a language trip it also helps to set out how much of the itinerary runs in the target language, which we can put in writing for you.
