Adaptable Travel pride ourselves on being, well, adaptable! We work with you to tailor make the perfect itinerary, but there is no harm in having a head start. As such, below is a popular itinerary many of our groups choose to loosely book.

Fly from the UK to Berlin where you will be met at the airport by your guide who will aim to greet students in German to start as you mean to go on. You will be transferred to your accommodation in central Berlin. Subject to flight time you may have some free time, in which case we can pre-book activities if required. After checking in, enjoy an evening meal which can be ordered in German, and then time to relax.

Coach transfer to your accommodation, with a meet and greet on arrival and guide assistance (guides can speak English or German for full language immersion). End of coach hire.

Make your way around Berlin using your inclusive public transport passes. You can also choose to add in coach hire at a supplement if preferred.

Depending on your flight times, spend the afternoon (self-led) exploring the history and culture of this wonderful city, famous sights include the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag building, Checkpoint Charlie and the Berlin Wall. You may wish to use your included E3 German language trail this afternoon.
Evening meal at your accommodation (2-course).

AM: Enjoy a morning of intensive language lessons. PM: Following lunch, travel on a guided tour of Berlin taking in the main sites such as the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, and the Holocaust Memorial sites. Evening meal and time for socializing. We can organize additional evening activities including bowling.

Breakfast at your accommodation.

Make your way around Berlin using your inclusive public transport passes. You can also choose to add in coach hire at a supplement if preferred.

Enjoy a morning visit to the famous Olympic Stadium for a guided tour in German or English – discover the legacy of this iconic stadium, originally built for the 1936 Olympic Games.
Head to Alexanderplatz and explore Berlin’s bustling city square, followed by a trip up the TV Tower for panoramic views of the city.

Free time for lunch in Alexanderplatz – students can choose from a wide range of cafés and restaurants. Lunch (not included – own arrangement).

This afternoon head to Charlottenburg Palace for a guided tour, the largest palace in the city and a window into Berlin’s royal past (guides can speak English or German for full language immersion).
Traditional Bavarian dinner at Hofbräu Wirtshaus.
Round off the day with a fun and active evening at a local bowling alley (2 games of bowling included).

AM: Enjoy a morning of intensive language lessons. PM: Following lunch, travel to the Berlin TV Tower with your guide for incredible views over the city and the guide will explain what you are seeing in German. This is followed by a visit to the Story of Berlin Museum for a guided tour a look at the fascinating past of this city. In the evening enjoy a meal, and another chance to put the language lesson-learning into practice.

Make your way around Berlin using your inclusive public transport passes. You can also choose to add in coach hire at a supplement if preferred.

Visit the East Side Gallery, on the banks of the Spree in Friedrichshain. This open-air gallery is the longest surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall. Once the wall came down, 118 artists from 21 countries began painting the East Side Gallery.
Head to the neighbouring Markthalle Neun food market for a 45-minute guided tour. Students will learn about the vibrant food culture in Berlin and immerse themselves in the sights, smells and sounds of the market.

Optional extra – For a supplement, you may wish to add a tasting experience to this guided tour which includes regional specialties such as baked bread, cheeses, hams, pasta and baklava. Alternatively, enjoy free time for lunch inside the market – a great opportunity for students to try authentic Berlin Street food and to put their German language skills into practice. Lunch (not included – own arrangement).

In the afternoon, your students will have the opportunity to learn more about the impact of the Berlin Wall on Berlin’s urban landscape and its residents’ lives at the Berlin Wall Memorial. There are various guided tours and workshops available in German or English.
Evening meal at your accommodation (2-course).
Evening visit to the Reichstag roof top terrace and glass dome to view the city at night. Complimentary audio guides (in German or English) are provided for commentary as you walk up the glass dome spiral ramp (schools must book their free online visit slot directly).

AM: Enjoy a morning of intensive language lessons. PM: Following lunch, travel to the Berlin Wall and Documentation Centre for a look at parts of the Berlin Wall. Your guide will then take you to the Olympiastadium, a fascinating melting pot of old and new Berlin, built by the Nazis, used in the 2006 Football World Cup. Your guide will be able to explain all of this in German. In the evening enjoy your final evening meal, and another chance to put the language lesson learning into practice.

Breakfast at your accommodation and check out (luggage storage available if required).

Make your way around Berlin using your inclusive public transport passes. You can also choose to add in coach hire at a supplement if preferred.

Depending on flight times, enjoy some free time exploring Potsdamer Platz or souvenir shopping along the Kurfürstendamm.
Coach transfer to the airport and return flight to the UK.

Berlin - German MFL

How do the Berlin public transport passes work?

We provide 24-hour BVG small group tickets for the number of days you are travelling. This is the most cost-efficient ticket for a school group. Each ticket is valid for up to 5 people for 24 hours from time of validation and for any number of shared rides in tariff zone A, B and C. Berlin C zone. Zone A is the most central and Zone C is the greater Berlin area, including the city of Potsdam, Sachsenhausen Memorial and the airport. Tickets can be validated on the platform before your first ride.

The BVG (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe) network includes S-Bahn (urban rail), U-Bahn (underground), buses, trams and even BVG ferry services across the Spree. BVG tickets are valid on these modes of public transport, as well as other regional transport options, although not on long-distance intercity trains (IC, EC or ICE).

Are school groups exempt from city/tourist tax in Berlin?

Yes, school trips are exempt from city tax in Berlin, provided the group leader completes the city tax exemption form before arrival. Our operations team will email this form in advance of the trip and can forward the completed version to the accommodation ahead of arrival.

Would you recommend including any additional coaching whilst in Berlin?

As standard, we include coach transfers from the airport to the accommodation on arrival and departure. The public transport network is considered extensive and reliable and so you should then be fine to use the many rail, bus and tram options for the remainder of the trip. However, you may wish to add further coaching at a supplement, depending on your itinerary or personal preference. Some groups like to a add a day of coach hire to visit excursions which are located further out of the centre such as the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, Wannsee and Potsdam. These visits are all accessible by public transport, but it can be time consuming to travel to the end of the S/U Bahn line. We can provide the supplementary coach price if required.

Are inspection visits offered before trip approval?

We are able to offer inspection visits for non-UK destinations. Especially for high-value or complex trips (e.g., CERN, Krakow), inspection visits can be arranged or supported. This should be discussed early in the planning process.

Adaptable Travel understands that taking a group of students somewhere for the first time can be daunting. In addition, you may have mandatory health and safety criteria within your school or LEA that require firsthand knowledge of the destination. That is why we aim to make it possible for you to visit the destination of your school trip before you take your students.

We can include 2 nights’ accommodation at your booked destination on a B&B basis in a twin room on request (for non-UK destinations).

Helpful Tips on your Inspection Visit

Two heads are better than one.
Familiarise yourself with the layout of the accommodation and the areas you plan to visit and consider what problems they may give any individual as well as the group.
Confirm your control measures will work and be effective.
Select appropriate meeting points for your group for each activity if needed.
With your group in mind, look out for potential trouble spots and make a note of any “out of bounds” areas.
Note down useful telephone numbers such as emergency services etc.
Visit the nearest tourist office

What supervision ratios are followed during the trip?

Trips typically follow government or school policy ratios (e.g., 1 adult to 10 students), but we can adapt based on your school's requirements. These ratios are always clearly stated in your quotation.

Is insurance and included in the trip package?

Travel insurance can be added the package and covers both students and staff.

It is not included as standard since we find many schools general insurance policy already includes school trips. So we suggest you check if your school insurance policy covers school trips. If not we make it simple to add it to your tour.

What is your minimum group size?

Our minium group size for all educational tours is a least 20 paying passengers.

Are risk assessments provided for all activities and accommodations?

We provide comprehensive risk assessments and statements for:
