The artist Pablo Picasso had a very special and intimate relationship with the city of Barcelona, as his city of residence from the years 1895 to 1904. During this 9 year period Picasso would venture into the art world and create some of his first works, creating a link with the city that would live for him forever. It is said, one cannot truly appreciate Picasso and his works without visiting this museum to learn of his relationship with the city and the impact this had on his iconic career. Boasting over 3,800 works in its permanent collection the museum offers a rare insight into some of Picasso's lesser known and more personal works as well as a rare glimpse into his personal life. The museum turned 50 in 2013 and has undergone many renovations and expansions allowing for it to be developed to include a range of activities, services and programmes which support the museum as a reference place spreading an understanding and knowledge of Picasso and his work to all visitors.
