Arrival in Rome

Fly to Rome and explore.

You will fly from the UK to Rome and transfer by coach to your accommodation to check in. You will get around Rome on foot and by public transport, with 12, 24 or 72-hour passes bought locally from any metro or train station, or coach hire added at a supplement. You will then have free time to explore the city self-guided, taking in areas such as Piazza Venezia, Piazza Navona, Via del Corso and the Villa Borghese Gardens, before a two-course evening meal at a local restaurant with a pizza or pasta main.

Day 2

The Vatican

The Vatican and Sistine Chapel.

After breakfast you will take a guided tour of the Vatican and Sistine Chapel with headphones. The tour ends with an explanation of St Peter's Basilica, which your group can then visit self-guided and free of charge by joining the regular queue. Lunch is at your own arrangement, with cafes a short walk away and St Peter's Square a fine spot to eat.

Basilica of St Mary Major.

In the afternoon you will make a self-guided visit to the Basilica of St Mary Major, before a two-course evening meal at a local restaurant.

Day 3

Ancient Rome

The Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill.

After breakfast you will take a guided tour, with guide and headphones, of the ancient Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Lunch is at your own arrangement nearby, with plenty of cafes and bakeries in the area and the Colle Oppio Park, with its Colosseum views, a good place to eat.

A guided walking tour.

In the afternoon you will enjoy a three-hour guided walking tour taking in the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon, with headsets included, before a two-course evening meal at a local restaurant.

Day 4

The journey home

The Catacombs and home.

After breakfast, and subject to flight times, you will visit the Catacombs of St Domitilla en route to the airport for a guided tour, before your coach transfer to the airport and return flight to the UK.
