Waterloopbos

Waterloopbos is a rewilded former hydraulics laboratory, walkable on marked routes.

For decades, this was a working laboratory where Dutch engineers built scale models of harbours, coastlines and flood defences from all over the world, and tested them with real running water. The models for some of the country's most important water works were shaped here first. 

The concrete models still lie among the trees. Here, your students learn the story of Dutch water engineering from the overgrown structures, and experience a rewilded nature reserve alive with dragonflies, amphibians and birds. Engineering and ecology, in the same walk.
