Maeslantkering Storm Surge Barrier

Show all photos
The Delta Works are a series of storm barriers protecting Holland from flooding, and the Maeslantkering is the final piece of that system. Two enormous gates stand ready to shut off the New Waterway the moment a storm tide threatens, and the barrier itself is almost as long as the Eiffel Tower and four times its weight.
Your group can visit the exhibition and watch ships pass through the barrier every six minutes.
A guided tour can also be added on, lasting one hour and thirty minutes, giving your group a deeper look at how the barrier operates and the wider story of Dutch water safety.
This add-on is available as part of package tour with Adaptable Travel. Note, we do not offer daytrips.
