A CERN study trip gives your 16+ group a working research laboratory, and Geneva is a city they can handle largely under their own steam. The physics does the heavy lifting.

The Large Hadron Collider went quiet on 29 June 2026 for Long Shutdown 3. That makes it a live case study in how large-scale research is funded, planned and rebuilt. Around 1.2 km of magnets and equipment are being replaced, and the ATLAS and CMS detectors rebuilt, ahead of the High-Luminosity LHC starting up in 2030. The guided tour is led by a CERN scientist, and the Science Gateway carries the exhibitions and lab workshops.

At this level your group can get more out of the exhibitions on their own. Geneva supports that, with the History of Science Museum, the United Nations and the old town all on free public transport. We have taken over 10,000 students to CERN and we are the UK's leading CERN school trips provider.

Arrival in Geneva

Fly to Geneva and explore.

You will fly from the UK to Geneva and use your public transport pass to travel to your accommodation. Depending on your flight time you will have free time to explore the city, with the option of visiting the History of Science Museum and the Botanical Gardens. Optional evening meals at a local restaurant can be added on request.

A day at CERN

CERN and a Geneva trail.

After breakfast you will use your public transport pass to travel to CERN for your guided visit, which is booked directly by your school, with students witnessing science in the making on a tour led by a CERN scientist. There will be free time for lunch at CERN, followed in the afternoon by a self-guided E3 Treasure Hunt trail around Geneva. Optional evening meals at a local restaurant can be added on request.

The United Nations and home

The United Nations and the journey home.

After breakfast you will visit the United Nations for a guided tour, available Monday to Friday only as it is closed at weekends. You will then explore the Old Town of Geneva on foot for some free time, before using your public transport pass to travel to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Subject to your flight times, you could also enjoy a Lake Geneva boat cruise to take in the stunning scenery before you depart.
