DakAkker Rooftop Farm - Rotterdam

Six floors above Rotterdam, on the roof of a former office block, sits an open-air, working rooftop farm.
Over a 45-minute guided tour, the people who run the farm share its story, from its design and construction to the vegetables, edible flowers and organic crops they grow and sell to local restaurants, and the bees, worms and chickens that keep it all going. Students also meet Slimdak 010, a clever rooftop water system that talks to rainfall radars, holding heavy rain and releasing it slowly to help protect the streets below from flooding.
It turns abstract ideas into something you can see, smell and stand in: urban food production, city biodiversity, and climate-smart design, all on one roof. The tour is built for school groups, so students hear it straight from the growers, with time afterwards to explore and take photos.
The rooftop is reached by lift to the sixth floor, then about 20 steps up onto the roof itself.
