Step inside Crumlin Road Gaol, Northern Ireland’s only remaining Victorian-era prison, and explore more than 150 years of Belfast’s history. Opened in 1845 and closed in 1996, the gaol has housed thousands of prisoners and witnessed executions, escapes and some of the most significant events in the city’s past.

The self-guided experience takes students through historic cells, C-Wing, the Gaol Circle, condemned and hanging cells, the tunnel and graveyard, with audio, video and holographic displays bringing the stories of the prison to life.

For groups looking for a deeper insight, a guided Gaol experience can be added, led by an expert guide and covering the prison’s Victorian history, the Troubles and its eventual closure. Guided experience is available evenings & weekends
