Take students beyond the classroom with an immersive Citizen Scientist experience led by ERSE, combining environmental science, fieldwork and sustainable tourism in the protected natural areas of north-western Tuscany, near Pisa.

This unique scientific tourism programme allows groups to participate in genuine environmental research projects alongside experts, collecting and analysing real scientific data in coastal, woodland and protected habitats. Students become active researchers for the day, contributing to ongoing conservation and biodiversity monitoring projects while exploring some of Tuscany’s most scenic natural landscapes.

Available projects:

  • Scientists along the Seashore: Assess the biodiversity of the seashore by collecting and analysing biological samples from the seabed and the shoreline.
  • Scientists in the River: Perform an in-field biological assay to evaluate the Ecological Status of a Tuscany freshwater stream.
  • Flora of San Rossore Regional Park: (March - June) Identify and classify plants species to assess the level of biodiversity of the flora in two habitats of the  Natural Park “Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli”.
