Yorkshire Museum & Workshops

The Yorkshire Museum is open for schools to visit from 10am on Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Your group will explore the galleries of the Yorkshire Museum, which span millions of years from the Jurassic period through to Medieval York.
Explore the journey through prehistoric, Roman, Viking, and medieval history, as well as natural history displays. Providing pupils with a tangible experience of different historical periods
Guided workshops available to add on:
- Roman York
Step into the world of Roman York. Explore the museum and examine real artefacts from our collections to learn about everyday life, beliefs, and fashions brought to Britain by the Romans. Afterwards, enjoy trying out Roman board games or don a gladius and scutum to practise some legionary battle techniques.
- Viking North
Step back in time and explore the museum and examine real artefacts to learn about the lives of Viking warriors, traders, and craftsmen in northern England. Afterwards, enjoy playing a traditional Viking board game or designing your own piece of Scandinavian jewellery.
- Prehistoric Yorkshire
Discover more than 100 million years of history at the Yorkshire Museum. Explore the museum and handle real artefacts from our collections to learn about life in Yorkshire during the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages. Afterwards, make your own replica of the Star Carr pendant, one of Britain’s earliest decorative artworks, or create a clay cast of a bronze axe head.
All workshops are available either 10am-12pm or 12.30-2.30pm.
Maximum group size of 34 pupils per workshop.
