York Mansion House

Available Tuesday - Sundays.
Visit York Mansion House, n.
Your group will explore four floors of Georgian history, from the grand State Room and civic silver collection to the kitchens below stairs, discovering how this elegant house reflects the city’s civic life and social history.
Workshops available to add on:
- The handling collection
Students get up close and personal with a few items from our collection, and learn about their history and use within the city, the Mansion House, or historical function more generally. This includes civic items such as seals and keys, kitchen items, old stationery, and more. This activity usually takes around half an hour.
- The Fan Language workshop
Students go back in time to the Georgian Ballroom, through a lesson in etiquette, and the secret method of communication through fans. The Fan Language workshop usually takes around half an hour.
- A historic cooking demonstration
The cooking demonstrations take place in our restored historic kitchen, and give students a chance to see how food was prepared in the 18th century. Unfortunately, the cooking environment means that tasters cannot be provided, but recipe cards can be taken away to try make at home! This workshop is best suited for smaller groups, perhaps run alongside a tour with multiple guides, and takes around 20 minutes.
