Stolzenfels Castle, perched above Koblenz on the left bank of the Rhine, is a stunning example of 19th-century Gothic Revival architecture and Prussian Rhine Romanticism. Originally a 13th-century toll castle, it was rebuilt between 1836 and 1842 as a summer palace by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, based on designs by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and August Stüler. Pupils visit the inner and outer courtyards, historic halls, chapel, and enjoy sweeping views over the Rhine.
