The Museum of Fine Arts, also known as the Kunsthistorisches Museum is one of Vienna’s greatest art museums, and one of the most important 19th century museum buildings within Europe. The building was commissioned as part of the city’s expansion by Emperor Franz Joseph I as means to house and showcase the vast artistic collection acquired by the Habsburg Monarchy. Completion of the beautiful place building completed in 1891 after 20 years of construction and was opened to the public this same year. The beauty of the building itself and the pieces and artefacts housed within it are perfectly suited, making for a fantastic experience. Amongst the collection are pieces from Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome as well as brilliant examples of Renaissance and Baroque works.
