Lava Caves: Grotta del Gelo (Cave of Ice) & Grotta dei Lamponi
Accompanied by a specialist guide your group can hike over the lava fields passing recent cinder cones and eruptive fissure to visit the spectacular Grotto del Gelo “Cave of Ice” which is the most remote of Etna’s lava caves. The cave contains frozen melt water creating Europe’s smallest glacier. Students can also visit the Grotto dei Lamponi another of etna’s lava tubes which has a huge lava channel structure.
