Floating Farm - Rotterdam

The world's first floating dairy farm, and a bold answer to how cities might feed themselves
Moored in Rotterdam's harbour is something students will not have seen anywhere else: a working dairy farm that floats on the water. Real cows, producing fresh milk, cheese and yoghurt every day, on a farm that rises and falls with the tide.
The whole farm is a lesson in the circular economy. The cows are fed partly on food waste collected from the city. Rainwater is captured and used. Waste is turned back into fertiliser, and solar panels help power the site. Nothing is wasted if it can be reused. Students see, in one place, how food, water, energy and waste can all be joined up rather than thrown away.
The Future of Farming guided tour gives them the full story, with the option to add a dairy tasting to see, and taste, the results for themselves.
Packed lunches and goodie bags can also be added to a booking for a small extra charge.
