Costa Brava Coastal Management

Show all photos
The Costa Brava, the stretch of coastline north of Barcelona in Girona province, is an excellent case study for comparing coastal management techniques and land use conflicts. Decades of heavy tourism development have put real pressure on this coastline, and it needs careful management to balance tourism, local communities, business and industry alongside protecting the environment.
Visits can be arranged to sites that bring these issues to life, for example, the erosion problems of Sitges beach, and the complex land use issue of the predominantly residential area at Badalona. Boats trips along the coastline can also be arranged.
