Tucked away in York’s Snickelways, Barley Hall is a restored medieval townhouse that offers students a glimpse into life in the 15th century.

The building has been reconstructed using traditional methods to reflect its medieval appearance. During the visit, groups explore the Great Hall, chambers and galleries, discovering how people lived, worked and entertained in the late Middle Ages.

The hands-on nature of the house helps learners compare past and present living conditions, examine social hierarchy, and engage with primary-style sources.
