Statutory Maternity Pay

The basic Statutory Maternity Leave says:

Eligible employees can take up to 52 weeks’ maternity leave. The first 26 weeks is known as ‘Ordinary Maternity Leave’, the last 26 weeks as ‘Additional Maternity Leave’.

The earliest leave can be taken is 11 weeks before the expected week of childbirth. Employees must take at least 2 weeks after the birth (or 4 weeks if they’re a factory worker).

Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) (as of August 2014)

SMP for eligible employees can be paid for up to 39 weeks, usually as follows:

• the first 6 weeks - 90% of their average weekly earnings (AWE) before tax

• the remaining 33 weeks - £138.18 (SMP)

Tax and National Insurance will be deducted from the above figure.

Adaptable Travel Enhanced Maternity Package

For full-time, permanent employees with 12 months or more service:

Eligible employees can be paid for up to 39 weeks, usually as follows:

  • the first 10 weeks - 100% of their average weekly earnings (AWE) before tax
  • the remaining 29 weeks - £138.18 (SMP)

Tax and National Insurance will be deducted from the above figure.

Questions About Taking Maternity Leave:

HOW LONG CAN MATERNITY LEAVE LAST?

Adaptable Travel allow upto 12 months Maternity leave in total. Any remaining maternity leave after the initial 39 weeks maternity leave has elapsed will be unpaid, upto a maximum of 13 weeks.

WHAT HAPPENS TO ANNUAL LEAVE?

Annual leave accrues whilst off on maternity leave. You can accrue a maximum of 28 days for use during maternity leave including bank holidays.

TAKING MATERNITY LEAVE:

Maternity leave may commence at any time between the eleventh week before the due date and the expected week of childbirth. In the event of early childbirth, and the employee has not commenced maternity leave, the maternity leave will start from the day of childbirth.

Maternity leave dates will be agreed beforehand in writing with Adaptable Travel.

PROFIT SHARE SCHEME

Employees on Maternity leave will still be included in the annual profit share scheme even if this takes place during maternity leave.

RETURNING TO WORK

We realise returning to work will take adjustment for mother and child. Should you wish, Adaptable Travel can offer a phased return to work, with a 20 hour week available for the first 4 weeks upon returning to work (paid pro-rata), to assist in reacclimatising to work and childcare arrangements.

FLEXIBLE RETURN

In certain circumstances, Adaptable Travel may be able to offer employees a return to work on a reduced hours contract, with minimum hours set at 28 hours per week. This can be worked over 4 or 5 days (Monday-Friday) between 09:00hrs-17:00hrs If this option is taken up, Adaptable Travel and the employee will agree beforehand what hours will be worked and when. Hours will be set each week.

School Holidays

In addition to a flexible working week, Adaptable Travel also offer the option of unpaid leave during the school holidays. These dates are as follows:

  • School Christmas Holidays – a maximum of 2 weeks off
  • School Easter Holidays – a maximum of 2 weeks off unpaid leave
  • School Summer Holidays – a maximum of 6 weeks off unpaid leave

You can choose to use a combination of annual leave and unpaid leave during the above period if you wish.

Paternity Policy

You are eligible for Paternity Leave once you have been employed by Adaptable Travel for 12 weeks or longer.

To be eligible, you must be one of the following:

  • the baby’s father
  • the expectant mother’s spouse or civil partner
  • in a long-term relationship with the expectant mother

The law states you must have 1 week paid leave and you are allowed a further 1 week (5 working days) unpaid leave when your partner has a baby or adopting a child.

As part of our enhanced Paternity policy, Adaptable Travel offer 2 weeks (!0 working days) fully paid paternity leave, and the opportunity for a further third week at half pay.

Following this you can top up your leave with annual leave.

Start and end dates: Leave cannot start before the birth. It must end within 56 days of the

birth.

Appointments: We will also allow time off to accompany your partner to 3 antenatal appointments lasting up to 6 hours each appointment. These 3 appointments will not impact upon your holiday allowance balance.

If you opt for Shared Paternity Leave, this Paternity Policy does not apply.
