Descend 40 meters below Naples Historic Centre and emerge into the Napoli Sotterranea, a labyrinth of caves, tunnels, and passageways. This underground museum shows centuries of life in Naples, with cellars, tunnels, aqueducts and passageways and ruined buildings telling the story of Naples through time. Led by knowledgeable guides, you’ll learn about the history of Naples from the bottom up.

Every historic epic, from the foundation of Neopolis, to the bombs of WWII, has left it's mark on the walls of the yellow tufo stone, the soul of Naples, and the stone with which the city was built. The Greeks withdrew large quantities of the tufa stone that lies beneath to construct the city walls and the temples. They also excavated numerous areas to create a series of underground tombs.
