New Museum of Contemporary Art

New Museum of Contemporary Art

The New Museum of Contemporary art was founded in 1977 by Marcia Tucker and is Manhattan’s only museum and gallery dedicated solely to Contemporary art. The founder Marcia Tucker had a vision for the museum after working as a curator in art museums and recognising that new works by living artists are not represented enough within mainstream collections and the conventional model for art museums. The New Museum of Contemporary art serves to do just that, while also creating a community and a dialogue between creatives and the public interpreting and studying their work. The collection represents contemporary works, completed by new and emerging artists in the past decade and serves as a way for audiences to interact with and appreciate lesser known but fantastic works of art. The museum has received international recognition and praise for the individuality and variety shown within its curatorial programs.
