This museum explores a variety of creative disciplines and is dedicated to showcasing art in the form of crafts and design. Students can view examples of brilliant experimentation in furniture design, glass work, ceramics, woodwork, textiles, architecture and contemporary arts. The museum has developed its collection over 150 years with pieces dating from the Middle ages right through to modern contemporary pieces. Officially established in the mid 1800’s the MAK aimed to promote innovation by starting a collection of its own from the ground up, rather than collections stemming from imperial roots. This has meant culture, innovation, exploration and experimentation are at the root of the pieces on show.
