Bruges Mills
Show all photos
The Sint-Janshuismolen mill is a long-standing part of the city’s heritage and has been a staple of Bruges’ tapestry since 1770, with windmills being an iconic element of Bruges’ identity since the late 13th Century. This windmill is the only of the four remaining examples on Kruisvest and is the only one to stand in its original position, with others being moved in the 1990’s. The mill is still fully functioning and continues grinding flour to this day, a credit to the craftmanship of the quaint structure. Not only this, but the mill is open to visitors who can climb the stairs within the structure and learn more about the history of windmills in Belgium and their role in the heritage of this fantastic country.
