London Fire Brigade Museum

This museum celebrates and recognises the fantastic work of the London Fire Brigade teams, both now and throughout history. Throughout the museum, students will develop a deeper understanding of the crucial work that firefighters do and what it really takes to be part of the London Fire Brigade. One of the largest in the world London Fire Brigade employs over 5000 people from the firefighters themselves to call handlers and control teams and non-uniformed staff. Groups will learn the history of firefighting in London dating all the way back to 1666, the Great Fire of London. Students can understand the role of the Fire Brigade during critical events such as World War 1 and 2 as well as other devastating events and incidents which have seen the fire service protect and serve the community. Groups can also get hands-on with equipment used by firefighters trying on helmets and other equipment and marvelling at the two fire engines on display in the museum.

A temporary museum has been set up in Lambeth Fire Station while a permanent, state of the art facility is constructed to house the museum as of 2023, where the museum is due to grow and offer even more. This museum is an excellent opportunity for students to understand how the emergency services operate, and the role they play in keeping the community safe.
