China is an incredible school trip destination, yet the geographical aspect of China offers case studies unique to China, therefore making the perfect Geography school trip.

The Adaptable Travel China geography tour takes in the incredible sites in Guangzhou, Yangshuo and Changdu, offering the perfect mix of geography studies and Chinese cultural immersion.  When thinking about Chinese culture and geography, one will likely conjure images of rice paddies and mountainside Buddhist Temples.  Your group will experience human geography in the Chinese cities, tourism case studies, alongside rural migration issues. Below is a suggested itinerary for 8 days, 6 nights visiting Guangzhou, Yangshuo and Chengdu. Did you know our itineraries are 100% flexible? We have an expert team waiting to help create your perfect China school trip, so if the below needs tweaking, just ask.



  • Depart from UK airport (usually London) and travel overnight to Guangzhou.



  • Morning/Afternoon:
    Upon your arrival at the Guangzhou Airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation.
  • Afternoon
    Your first visit will be the Buddhist Bright Filial Piety Temple and Yuexiu Park.
  • Evening:
    Enjoy a Cantonese Dim Sum dinner.



  • Morning:
    Take the morning train from Guangzhou South Station to Guilin West Station. From here, a coach transfer (2 hours) will take you to the Longsheng County, an ideal base to learn about Chinese agriculture.
  • Afternoon:
    Visit the Longji Rice Terraces in Ping'an village. Stay overnight in a simple guesthouse in the mountains.



  • Morning:
    Hike through rice paddies and see minority tribes. Visit the amazing viewpoints, "seven stars and one moon" and "nine dragons and five tiger". Then transfer to Yangshuo (3 hours)
  • Afternoon/Evening:
    Attend a cooking class and make fantastic local dishes that you'll eat for your dinner. Then check-in to your accommodation in Yangshuo.



  • Morning:
    Relax in mud baths and hot springs at the back of a 2km deep cave. Then hike to the top of Moon Hill, a famous natural landmark, and enjoy the view over Yangshuo.

    Continue exploring the countryside on bikes (helmets provided), stopping off at limestone peaks as your group cycle alongside Yulong River.

    Spend the evening shopping in West Street in Yangshuo.



  • Morning:
    Enjoy a relaxed morning taking in the local scenery and sights.
  • Afternoon:
    Learning activity: students research and discuss challenges facing rural China and effects of tourism on a LEDC with the group and local experts (Yangshuo is a useful case study).
  • Evening
    Enjoy the stunning Impression Sanjie Liu light show in the evening.


  • Morning:
    Fly from Guilin Liangjiang International Airport to Chengdu Shuangliu Airport.
  • Afternoon:
    In the afternoon visit Chengdu’s Panda Breeding Research Centre to see China’s national animal and learn about conservation efforts.
  • Evening
    Try traditional Sichuan Hotpot, a fiery broth for dipping meat and vegetables.
    Student Fieldwork Presentations: “The Contrast Between Urban and Rural China” (or an alternative project designed by the lead teacher, pre-discussed with Adaptable Travel before travel)



  • Morning:
    Transfer to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport for the flight home.
