Less than half of school pupils go on school trips despite teachers identifying them as valuable. A new survey by the Countryside Alliance Foundation discovered that health and safety fears are one of the main reasons why school trips do not take place.
The same report also identified that it was almost unheard of for health and safety to be a real issue over the past 10 years if trips were planned properly. In contrast the survey revealed that 76 per cent of teachers felt the main barrier in taking pupils to the countryside to facilitate learning was ‘concerns about health and safety’.
