National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery was founded in 1856 and has since developed a collection of over 190,000 works of art making it one of the most significant and impressive portrait galleries in the world today. The galleries primary collection consists of approximately 11,000 works of art, made up of about 4,000 paintings, sculptures and miniatures with a further 7,000 light sensitive works produced on paper. Amongst its numerous permanent art collections is an extensive photographic collection as well as various changing collections.


The National Portrait Gallery is closed for renovations beteeen 29th June 2020 until Spring 2023.
