Founded in 1751, Georgetown is a historic neighbourhood, commercial and entertainment district. It is located northwest of Washington D.C and situated along the Potomac River, which boats could navigate upstream. In the 1820s and 1830s Georgetown was an important shipping centre, with items such as Tobacco and other goods being transferred between the canal and shipping on the Potomac River. Your students will be able to visit many landmarks within Georgetown such as the Canal Square Building, the City Tavern Club, The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, Subarton Oaks, The Forrest-Marbury House and many more!
