A school trip to the diverse city of London is an excellent way to offer Science immersion for your students, to truly inspire a next generation of scientists.  London is home to many exciting sights, museums and exhibitions - London is a city at the forefront of modern science.

Victorian museums including the world-famous Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and Kew Gardens and the Planetarium are all worthy of a visit to London by themselves, covering the three key facets of science, Physics, Biology and Chemistry.  In addition, in recent years London has seen some innovative, unique visits open for your students to explore, including Centre of the Cell, a wonderful science education visit and workshops set in a working biomedical research laboratory; Royal Institute - L'Oréal Young Scientist Centre – home to 200 years of experiments; and Forensic Outreach – exploring CSI science techniques in a fun, student led manner.

Add to this some wonderful attractions in London including the fantastic London Eye, a relaxing Thames River Cruise or a captivating West End theatre show, all pre-bookable as part of your package, and it is easy to see why London is a premier destination for school science trips.  There really has never been a better time organise a school trip to London and bring the science classroom to life.

Overall we had a great time however a few points were really not great.
The choice of pub in Covent Garden: the service was awful and the food was really not up to scratch. We were in a room just for school groups and it was far from being the pub experience that we had hoped for.
The market tour: the tour was very interesting however we learnt very quickly that most of the tour was history based and not in the market itself as tours are not allowed - I would have liked to know this beforehand as our group was in London for the culinary side of things and not the history.
For the cruise and London eye, we wasted time in the line for the information desk as suggested on our coupon, only to find we had to re queue for the tickets and we nearly missed the cruise.
There is no 'coach pick up point' at North terminal Gatwick (there is at the south), the pick up point is at the car drop off point, next to the special assistance desk. Most of the stewards did not speak enough english to be able to help and again time was wasted for nothing.
Wagamamas was great.
The fish and chips in Borough High Street, was more like canteen fish and chips and not the traditional fish and chips we had wanted.
being that i specifically asked for the 'food ' side of things to be given importance we were disappointed with this.
The picnics: on our last day we had all chosen a different sandwich, only to find that the sandwiches left for us were all tuna (noone had chosen this and we had it the day before), we didn't once have fruit juice all week. the boxes of sandwiches were (if at all) badly names and with the amount of groups at the hostel all younsters just helped themselves (left self service in the breakfast room) - anyone could have taken them. we were lucky that on the last day we were able to have 10.
We were originally told that the teachers had 4 single beds in their room, and once the booking and payment made we learnt that that was not possible.
Although I was pleased with many aspects of the tour I do feel that there is much room for improvement, and although the meals would probably have been ok for a young school group this was not our case.

Overall, a very well organised trip with a good diversity of events to respond to the educational needs of students.
The eateries were also good apart from the pub at Covent Garden where we had Fish and Chips. Whilst I am aware that money can made from group bookings at no point have I felt like it is the case, until this restaurant. The portion size was for children and delivered on child sized plates, although the children were 13 and staff well above 13! The fish itself was of poor quality and compared what they were serving to other guests, definitely the chaeper version - it felt like a child's party! The drink was just water and the pudding was a badly heated pre-made apple pie with squirty cream.
They wanted us in and out as quickly as possible although, according to my schedule, we had an hour and an half there.
This was supported by the students feedback that this was the worse place to eat which, considering it was traditional fish and chips, was a shame. I would not go there again, although the location was great.
