Bespoke School Trips to

Krakow

School Trips to Auschwitz and KrakowKrakow is simply one of the most inspiring and curriculum enhancing destinations for any history school trip group. Fortunately spared destruction during World War II, the medieval city of Krakow houses more artworks and historic buildings than any other Polish city and is the country’s most popular destination.

The medieval city centre including market square is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the impressive Cloth Hall at the centre. Capital of Poland for more than 500 years and a setting for the Oscar-winning film Schindler’s List, Krakow is an ancient city with a haunting past, not-least for the nearby Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial.

On a school trip to Krakow, students can expect to learn and gain a greater understanding of the atrocities committed by the Nazis with a guided tour day trip at nearby concentration camps Plaszow and Auschwitz-Birkenau and Auschwitz Museum. Exploring these Nazi concentration camps will allow students to explore how the city became a place of Jewish persecution during World War II.  Explore the Jewish Quarter and the Jewish Ghettos to gain a closer understanding of war-time Jewish culture and include a visit to Oskar Schindler's Factory to  add even more context for students. For an appreciation of Poland’s history before World War II, students can visit the impressive Wawel Castle, take a stroll around the Old Town Square and visit the Salt Mines to appreciate the natural splendours of Poland.

With its medieval charm and gothic architecture, Krakow city centre a treasure-trove of historical landmarks and monuments that act as a poignant reminder of Europe’s turbulent past.
