The Blue Lagoon is a unique wonder of nature; a lagoon with pleasantly warm mineral-rich geothermal water in a middle of a black lava field. The high natural levels of silica and minerals give the Lagoon its rich blue colour. The facilities include modern changing rooms and showers, an indoor geothermal pool, a winter garden, restaurants and other services.

Reykjavik's landmark, the Perlan, is a unique piece of architecture - built in 1988. On top of the large tanks in which natural hot water is stored for heating the city, a glass dome has been constructed, housing a café and restaurant. Around the outside is a viewing platform with beautiful panoramic 360-degree views of the city.

Morning drive over Hellisheiði plateau to Hveragerði, known as the greenhouse village. Enroute, there will also be a visit to the famous HELLISHEIÐI GEOTHERMAL PLANT. We continue to GULLFOSS, the Golden Waterfall, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Europe. Here you will see thousands of tons of icy water thunder majestically down in double falls into a deep canyon. Only a few minutes drive from Gullfoss is the famous GREAT GEYSIR which has given name to hot spring all over the world. You will see one of the most active geysers in the area, Strokkur, spouting up to 30 meters. Onwards to ÞINGVELLIR, a remarkable geological site and the most historic site on the island. Þingvellir is the site of the world's oldest democratic parliament founded in 930. Þingvellir, located by Lake Þingvallavatn, the largest lake on the island, is now a national park. The beautiful canyon running through the park is actually the meeting point of two of the earth’s tectonic plates, and Þingvellir´s combination of natural phenomena and historical significance make it inseparable from the fabric of Icelandic national life. From Þingvellir we travel over Mosfellsheiði plateau to Reykjavík.

We drive from Reykjavik over the mountain pass Hellisheiði offers a magnificent view of the wide plains formed by glacial rivers, now fertile farmland in South-Iceland. A brief stop at Hveragerði with its greenhouses before proceeding east through small villages and farmlands to the majestic mountains towering over the coast we will have frequent views of mountains, including snow shrouded Hekla, the country’s most active volcano and the towering, ice capped strato volcano Eyjafjallajökull. We continue through the region where one of the best known of the Icelandic classical sagas, Njál’s Saga is set. A stop at the spectacular waterfalls SELJALANDSFOSS AND SKÓGARFOSS. Those two waterfalls tumble over high rock escarpments. There will also be time to visit the SKOGAR FOLK MUSEUM. We go past DYRHÓLAEY, a magnificent rocky headland with sheer cliffs, with a huge wave cut gap in its ocean facing tip to the beautiful sited village of Vík, where we will stop for lunch. After the break we’ll head for the sea shore before we turn back to Reykjavík. The sea shore is flanked by steep bird cliffs rising above the black, wave pounded sands. In the sea just outside the village of Vík are Reynisdrangar rocks - 66 meters above sea level at their highest. According to legend the Reynisdrangar were formed when two trolls were trying to drag a three-masted ship to land. When daylight broke they turned into a stone

A unique area with a variety of geological interests such as lava fields, volcanoes, glacier, springs, yellow and black sand beaches and caves. However the main attraction of this tour is undoubtedly the Snaefellsjokull Gaclier, a beautifully shaped strato volcano at the end of the peninsular. This area is the scene of Jules Verne’s novel ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’, in addition to being one of the wonders of the natural world.

The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Arctic sky. Northern Lights can be seen when certain weather conditions are fulfilled, usually during cold and very still evenings. This tour is subject to the correct weather conditions and time of year. What better way is there to understand how Iceland was created than to go underground and explore the hidden world under a lava field! All year round it is possible to visit the Leiðarendi Cave in the Blue Mountains. The Leiðarendi cave is a perfect example of an Icelandic lava tube and offers a unique experience. Students will see the magical rock formations left behind in the last volcanic eruption. In summer it is also possible to visit the Thingvellir National Park and explore Gjabakkahellir cave.

Take a snorkeling tour into the crystal clear underwater world of the tectonic rift valley in Þingvellir National Park. The tour is based on the Silfra, a narrow canyon in the lava field located between the continents of America and Europe. This is a full day tour to the glacial snout Sólheimajökull that extends down from the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. You will be accompanied by an experienced glacier guide and undertake a safe and easy walk on crampons up onto the ice field. Students can explore the deep crevasses of this outlet glacier with its amazing ice formations, jagged ridges and sink holes. Students also have the opportunity to try their hand at ice climbing on an
ice wall on the glacier. Also, along the way students can learn more about the glacier and the effect of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010. On the way back to Reykjavik there will be a stop at the beautiful Skógafoss waterfall. (All equipment is provided).
