Enjoy a Sky Ride through London

01/09/2010
In a bid to encourage environmentally friendly modes of transport, roads all over London will be closed to other traffic on 5 September to allow cyclists to enjoy the city on two wheels.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson is launching the 2010 Mayor of London's Sky Ride, a free mass-participation cycling event that allows people to make the most London's sights and sounds whilst travelling in a green way.

The circular route will run from the Tower of London to Buckingham Palace via the City of London and St Paul’s Cathedral and will be traffic-free between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

This year the route will also take riders through Parliament Square, passing Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

Mayor Johnson said, “London is in the midst of a two wheeled revolution and Sky Ride promises to add to our aim of making the capital the epicentre of pedal power.”

Last year the Mayor of London’s Sky Ride attracted over 65,000 people. The return of the Sky Ride is part of a series of London-based initiatives during what the Mayor has dubbed the 'Year of Cycling.' Johnson has also recently introduced cycle hire projects all across the city.
