The London College Hair Convention 2008 kicked off our 2008/09 Hairdressing event schedule in great style. As usual it was a fantastic event with record numbers of over 1000 budding hairdressers from all over the UK attending the 2008 event. The majority of groups opted to stay at the 4* Hilton Metropole Hotel in central London. This hotel is one of our favourites and at such a good standard. With 3 restaurants to choose from, luxurious deco and a heated indoor swimming pool, it never fails to impress with many groups commenting that the hotel added to the overall experience.

The first event of this convention was the ‘Alternative Hair Show’ and took place on the Sunday evening at the historic Royal Albert Hall. As students got dressed up, coaches transported them to the venue. This fantastic event is held annually to raise money and awareness for Leukaemia research. The show brings together the greatest hair designers from around the world and displays their creations in a show stopping catwalk display. This year’s theme was ‘Emotions’ and celebrated its worldwide patron Vidal Sassoon’s 80th birthday. The Alternative Hair Show was a bombardment of colours, lights and music creating an electric atmosphere amongst our groups. A number of groups had also chosen to upgrade their tickets to stalls and boxes in order to really experience the show in style! This aspect of the College Hair Convention added an air of fun an excitement to the educational content of this tour, and was a real inspiration for students.

The second half of the convention took place on Monday with a free day at the renowned hairdressing trade event ‘Salon International’. Here groups got to see the best in hairdressing products, techniques and equipment. Still reeling from the excitement of the show the night before students stocked up on equipment for their course and tested out the best products on the market, ready to go back to college with the inspiration, techniques and equipment required to succeed!
